Larry the Billionaire Episode 22 Dengue healthcare costs

Katie is a 5’1” petite girl with large breasts that may give her back problem when she’s older.  At 31, she’s doing well in this department as she hasn’t had many problems with her back.  Her father works in construction and enjoys exotic travelling.  He recently went to Palawan to enjoy the Philippines and swim in the crystal blue water.  Although Katie likes travelling, the Palawan jungle doesn’t really interest her and she stays at home working a job that allows her to make ends meet.  She receives a phone call from her mother and she answers it.  “Hey Katie” her mom starts with a solemn tone.

                “HI mom”

Based on her voice, Katie already knew this is not good news.  Her mom sounds like she’s been crying.  Her mom says, “I don’t know how to say this except to just say it.  Your father went out hiking and I guess something bit him. He has dengue fever.  I don’t know what to do.  Our insurance company won’t pay for him to be transported back to the US so I’m looking into flying out there.”

Katie was crushed.  She and her dad were really close and now she was unsure if she would ever see him again.  She sat down and replied, “Holy shit mom, I want to go too.”

“I know, I know but let me go first to see if it’s necessary.  There’s not much I can do here.”

“Why don’t we just pay for the Med-Evac here?”

“It’s a little outside of our price range.”

“It’s dad, we can go in to debt if his life depends on it.”

“Trust me honey, I know but it’s not really something that is affordable even with going into debt.  Don’t worry about it, let me handle it.”

“Well, I’m sure that the people in the Philippines see this shit all the time.  They know what they’re doing” she commented reassuringly though she knows she has no basis to say what she’s saying.

When Katie got off the phone, she was in the mood to drown away her problems.  She called a friend of hers and said, ‘I need to drink.’”

                “Cool, let’s go.”

They went to a bar named Deagan’s in Lakewood, Ohio as it wasn’t very packed and she could talk.  Katie let her friend know what was going on and her friend was very sympathetic but there wasn’t much she could say except offer support.  Her friend asked, “Is there anything I can do to help?”

“Do you know any rich people or someone that owns a helicopter company that can go bring him here?”

                “No, sorry I don’t”

“Then coming out with me is the best way you can help me.”

                “Well, I did that.”

“Yea, anyway, let’s talk about something else; I came here to take my mind off things.”

“Alright, did you see the Democratic debates last night?”

“Yea, I got to say Biden looked confused and lost.  Then his closing statement at the end giving that website Joe30330, why did he choose that number?”

“Yea, no clue.  It’s not even his website.  He got his own site address wrong.”

“Not to say shit about older people, but when you’re older, you need to look crisp and not out of touch.  The default position in people’s mind is you’re just an old man that has had reality pass them by.  Basically you need to prove that you’re not that guy.  Biden didn’t do that.  He just had weird meandering answers.”

“I know right?  De Blasio wasn’t much better.  I mean yea, most people just say tax the wealthy but when he started saying that Trump is the real socialist and that he’s a socialist for the wealthy.  That doesn’t even make sense?”

“I mean, I think he may have a point about the wealthy not paying their fair share so ‘taxing the hell out of them’ as he said is something every Democrat says but yea, you’re right, the whole ‘I know you are but what am I’ defense is cute when you’re like 6 but in a Democratic debate, you just sound ridiculous.”

“I do have to say that Biden looked good when he was commenting to Gillibrand”

“Oh when she tried to call him a misogynist?”

“Yea, the whole, “Why did you say when a woman works outside the home, it deteriorates the family?”

“At first I thought she made a good point until Biden fired back that both his wives worked and all the work he’s done for equal pay.  Usually when you have someone on the defensive talking about their record, it doesn’t work but when he brought up that he and Gillibrand were standing side by side at Syracuse fighting for women’s rights and the only thing that changed is that she’s running for president, that was really powerful.  Unfortunately, he used up all his energy in that one rebuttal”

“I’m actually getting a little tired of all this name calling.  Everything is racist or misogynistic these days, it’s ridiculous and it waters down the word.”

“Oh, I agree.  Gillibrand was a moron.  She was projecting too.  Talking about how the Republicans want to take your healthcare.  No, they don’t, they just want to leave it to private insurance companies.  Given what I’ve just been through, I’m not sure I really like private health insurance to begin with but you certainly can’t say that the Republicans are trying to steal it.  It just has no basis in reality.”

“There weren’t many good parts but what was your favorite part?”

“When Gabbard destroyed Kamala Harris.  Obviously, we live in Cleveland, Ohio and not California so I’m not sure how much of this is true but Harris didn’t defend herself so I’m guessing it was.  She was like ‘oh you’re running on legalizing drugs and how you think cops are bad, well you’re a prosecutor so you work with cops all the time.  You put 1,500 people in jail for marijuana-related crimes.’  Yea, you’re really in favor of legalizing drugs that’s why you so strictly enforced drug laws.”

“She wasn’t even done, Gabbard accused Harris of keeping people in jail beyond their sentences so she could get cheap labor and apparently she blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row and fought against tax veil systems affecting poor people.”

“Yea that was pretty devastating especially because she had no response.  I hear now California is sealing her prosecution records so her response was to make it impossible for people to check the accusations themselves.  Gee, that doesn’t sound suspicious at all” Katie switched to a heavily sarcastic voice at the end.

‘Yea, I hear that Gabbard has a deal with Biden for a cabinet position.”

“Deal or not, she did a good job trying to take out Harris.  I guess we’ll find out from the polls but it had an effect.”

“So after two rounds of debates, who do you think is winning?”

“Well, there’s like 26 candidates but the way I see it, there’s three categories.  You have the extreme liberal lane, a moderate lane and then an outside lane that can’t really be defined.  The liberal line I have to say Elizabeth Warren has taken that crown from Sanders.  The moderate lane I guess is still Biden despite an awful performance but the other moderates are at like 1% in the polls.  The ‘other’ lane is interesting because it seems to change the most.  I actually think it is Gabbard or maybe Andrew Yang.”

                “No Buttigieg or Beto?”

“No, they’re finished.  Well, I don’t want to say finished but they really dropped this round.  It’ll take a lot for them to be competitive again.  Biden better watch out.  If Gabbard made a deal with him, she may just become a worthy opponent and not need the cabinet position.”

“Maybe Gabbard will return to favor and give one to Biden.”

Katie smiled, “That would be awesome.  Have a man need a job from a woman for a change.”

A man sat down next to Katie and ordered a drink.  He had gotten there when they started talking about Gabbard’s dismantling of Harris.  He was alone and kept to himself.  Unbeknownst to Katie, this man was about to put her convictions to the test on the issue most prevalent in her mind.

Larissa was a bar tender at Daegan’s in Lakewood, Ohio.  At 31, she was one of the older bar tenders but she could still keep up with the young early 20 girls.  She was the daughter of a very successful defense lawyer so didn’t really need the money too much.  Due to her upbringing, she was constantly around wealthy people and one of her older brother’s friends was in town from New York.  Although he and her brother had a falling out, she always looked at him as an older brother.  They recently reconnected and she found out that he had become a billionaire and since he was never very good with women and doesn’t want to get married, he offered women extreme sums of money in exchange for sex.  He had strange morality though because he never just gave them a cash or check, instead he paid a bill they had.  Since his sex drive wasn’t very large, he could afford to wait.  When Larissa heard two girls talking and one of them needed a medical transport from the Philippines to America, she went on break and called him.  She started, “Hey Larry, it’s Larissa”

                “Hey Larissa, how are you?”

“I’m good.  Are you busy right now?  I found a girl that may meet your criteria.  I don’t really know your type but she’s tiny with long black hair and kind of cute if you like that kind of thing.”

                “it’s worth checking out.  Thanks”

                “No problem”

Larry came to the bar and Larissa signaled him where to sit so he’d be next to Katie.  He ordered a drink and Larissa gave him a knowing look asking if he approved.  Larry gave a slight nod and Larissa took her drink order.  Normally she wouldn’t do what she was about to do since she worked on tips but she knew that any tip she lost, Larry would make up for.  She stated, “You better be careful, Larry, these girls are with De Blasio about how you rich people don’t pay your fair share.”

Both Katie and her friend smiled and turned to look at Larry who was also smiling.  He responded to Larissa, “Well, if you lived in New York as long as I have, you’d realize how De Blasio caused that city to decline drastically and wouldn’t really trust anything he said.”

Katie spoke up, “Oh no, we weren’t defending De Blasio, we think he’s an idiot too but, you know it’s very common to talk about taxing the rich.  A lot of people say that the rich don’t pay their fair share”

“What do you think would be fair?”

Katie and her friend contemplated that for a second and Katie said, “I don’t know, maybe like a third of what they make or something?”

“That would be nice considering rich people normally pay like 50% of what they make.”

“Yea, if they have crappy accountants”

“Evidently there’s an epidemic of that because the top 20% of Americans pay 87% of the income tax for the entire country.”

                “What’s the top 20%?”

“Those who make $ 150,000 or more.”

“Yea, but don’t’ they make like 99% of the money?”

                “Try 52%”

“Oh, so the people that only get 52% of the pool of money have to pay 87% of the taxes?”

                “Yup”

“I thought Trump gave the rich the biggest tax cut.”

“He gave everyone a tax cut.  The rich got the smallest tax cut.  It did have the desired effect as the upward mobility of people became easier and more incentivized so you had more people moving up into those brackets.  Last year, 84% of the money was paid by the top 20% so even as people move up, they are paying a higher burden with their increased incomes.”

“Why don’t people say this stuff?”

“The Democrats control the culture.  They have the media, Hollywood and academia.  If you can’t get it from those three sources, where do you get your information from?”

                “Well we have the internet”

“Google, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter are in congressional testimony right now since they’ve been caught red-handed suppressing conservative thought.”

                “So how do you know?”

“You have to really dig deep and go to websites and get specific data you’re looking for.  It’s not really that the mainstream media lie, it’s that they omit.  Test everything you hear.  You hear that rich people don’t make their fair share, look up how much they pay and see if you think it’s fair.”

“Alright, so you’re saying Trump’s tax cuts hurt the rich.”

“No, I’m saying it helped everyone.  Take the other side of the spectrum.  It used to be that the bottom 60% of the income earners paid 2% of the income tax that the government receives”

“That makes sense.  They shouldn’t pay too much.”

“Now they pay 0%.  Keep in mind that they make 27% of the revenue, not the 1% that the deadly triangle will have you believe”

                “Deadly triangle?”

                “Hollywood, academia and media”

“Alright so what do you have to make per year to be in the bottom 60% of the population?”

                “86,000”

                “That’s not a bad income!”

“And you pay no net taxes.”

“Well, hopefully Trump will have those stats when he’s debating whoever the Democratic candidate is.”

“Ehhh, most people don’t like percentages and numbers.  I’m kind of a dork so I like facts and data”

“I’m a nerd like that too” Katie replied with a large smile showing blindingly white teeth.

Katie’s friend gave her a sever e look.  Katie knew what she was getting at and she glared back at her as if to say ‘no’  Katie’s friend moved her head forward as if to insist but Katie still said no so her friend chimed in, “So, what do you think about healthcare?”

“I’m in favor of sick people getting healthy but I don’t think that’s what you meant.  If you mean paying for it, government is never the answer.  The reason why costs are so high now is because of government”

“What do you mean by that?”

“Well, we’re going to have to go through a history lesson.  Long story short, the government spends more money on health care than any other sector.  Due to this, hospitals don’t need patients to make their money because it’s supplemented by the government.  This makes them less willing to work with patients for costs and leads to all these people bitching about doctor’s bedside manner.  This is true any time that the government is involved.  Third party paying systems don’t work.  Think about it, if you were given money to spend on someone else that you didn’t know, would you care about the quality or the cost of whatever you’re buying?”

Katie’s friend thought this over, “Well, I’m not paying for it so who cares how much it costs.  Since I don’t get to enjoy it, do I know this person that I’m choosing the product for?”

                “No”

“Then fuck them, I don’t care how good it is.”

“And that’s the problem with third party payer effects.  The government is paying for healthcare for people they don’t know.  They don’t care how much it costs because it’s not their money; it’s the tax payer money and they don’t care about the quality because they don’t know the person being taken care of.”

“You know what, let’s hear the ‘long story’ I got nowhere to go”

Larry chuckled, “Alright, so in 1965, the government introduced Medicare and Medicaid.  What they do is underpay doctors for elderly care, which has a high demand and higher burden of care than younger people because old people get sick more.”

                “That seems obvious”

“Right, so every time a doctor or hospital treats a Medicare or Medicaid patient, they lose money.  They need to keep the lights on so they have to overcharge everyone else.  That’s how you have high costs for healthcare. You have to overcompensate because the majority of patients you see are underpaying.  To put numbers to it, healthcare costs after 1965 rose by twice as much as the consumer price index and inflation.”

“Damn, but wouldn’t people not vote in the politicians who are responsible for their shitty healthcare?”

“If you get shitty care, who do you blame?”

                “The doctor or hospital”

                “There you go; so no”

“Oh, but isn’t it their fault because they’re providing the care?”

“If you take away someone’s motivation, it’s hard for them to be motivated to give the best care.  Think about anything else.  Do rich kids work really hard if they get a job separate from their parents or are they more inclined to quit or not care when the work gets tough because they don’t need the paycheck because their trust funds will set them for life?”

                “I see your point.”

“Why would a doctor be any different?”

“Ok, but pharmaceutical companies make all this money by making their products really high.”

“Well that’s also the government’s fault”

“Wait, no way.  I took an economics class in college.  It’s an inelastic market.  That means…”

“The demand for it doesn’t really change based on the increase in cost, yes I know.”

“So, how do you get around that?”

“Did you also learn in your economics class what happens if you increase the supply?”

                “The cost goes down.”

“Right, so the FDA regulates the safety and efficacy of drugs”

“Well, you don’t want bad drugs killing people.”

“I actually don’t know why not.  First of all, the FDA doesn’t do a very good job determining the safety of things anyway.  If a drug company makes a drug that kills people, they’ll get bad PR and people won’t trust the company.  Due to this, there’s no incentive for a drug company to make a garbage drug.  Now, let’s ignore that point because I understand how it scares people without a regulatory body for the safety of a drug. Efficacy, on the other hand, makes no sense.  Let doctors figure out how effective a drug is and how long to apply it.  We take away the efficacy part of the FDA mandate, then it won’t take 20 years for a drug to go to market.  When drugs get on the market quicker, then what do you have?”

“More supply, so the price gets driven down.”

“There you go.  By the way, Trump is the only president that had drug prices go down since 1965 so he’s doing well on that front too.”

“So the problem with government isn’t just the third party payer system, it’s that they suppress supply?”

“Yes, insurance companies pay doctors now.  That’s still third party but the insurance company is a better third party payer than the government because people can choose their insurance company but you have to pay the government its taxes.  You still have the effect, which is why healthcare is so high but the government is aiding in making the problem worse.”

“Because it takes 20 years to get a drug to market”

“That’s just the tip of the iceberg.  Remember our premise, increase supply decrease price.  The government encourages limited enrollment in medical school.  Since they now pay for education, they tell the medical schools not to accept that many applicants.  That’s why it’s so hard to get into medical school now.  This leads to a shortage of doctors, which drives the cost up because you have limited supply and high demand.”

Katie’s friend laughed, “It does keep coming back to the same basic principle”

“Yea, so now we know why drugs and doctors are so expensive but the government didn’t stop there.  You can’t just open a hospital if you have the funding and the land.  You have to get a ‘certificate of need’ from the government.  They don’t issue many of those so not too many hospitals can be opened.”

“Which is why you have to wait so long when you go into an ER”

“Bingo, this is called monopolistic competition.  It’s also why diamonds, the strongest mineral on Earth, is so plentiful yet so expensive.  De Beers keeps an obscene amount of diamonds in their vaults so it doesn’t flood the market and drive the prices down.  Government does the same thing with medical care.  They own the monopoly so they limit the supply to keep the prices high.”

“Why though?!” Katie’s friend yelled out throwing her hands up

“Power.  Government likes having power and if you control the industry that cares for the most vulnerable people, then you can exploit that power.  Like you said, it’s probably the most inelastic industry because people will pay almost anything if they’re dying.  If, however, you didn’t have the government involved, then they would have to lower their prices because obviously people do have some limit to what they can spend.  You could really want to pay to keep you alive but you literally can’t afford it because the price tag isn’t possible for you to afford.  That means you have to bring your cost down.  Now, they don’t have to do that, they can just be like ‘sorry sucks for you.”

“So what’s the solution?  I mean if government and insurance wasn’t involved and it was direct pay from patient to doctor, the doctor could still charge a lot because of the inelastic market and poor people wouldn’t be able to pay it.  Do we just not let the poor have access to medical care?”

                “No, reverse the taxes”

                “What do you mean?”

“Rather than use tax payer money to help poor people get medical care, give a tax write-off to the doctor or hospital if they do pro-bono work.  That’s how the legal system works”

“Then doctors don’t pay as much in taxes.”

“Only if they help the poor”

                “I’m not sure about that?”

“What’s the difference?  Instead of having doctors and hospitals pay taxes to the government and hope they don’t spend it on something else before it cycles back to poor people’s health, have the money that would have gone to the government, go to the poor person.  It’s like the government already paid for it, they just never had access to the money in the first place.”

“That’s actually a very good idea.  I mean, there’s probably some problem I’m overlooking but it’s certainly worth a shot.  I mean that’s how charity works and Americans give more to charity than anyone else because of it.”

                “There you go.”

“Anyway, this topic is very relevant right now because we have the exact situation that we just described” she articulated with a grin and a look at Katie.

Katie rolled her eyes and declared, “No, stop” then turned to Larry, “Don’t listen to her, she’s had too much to drink”

Her friend was undeterred, “No, I’m fine.  Tell me something, the bartender said you were rich, is that true?”

                “Yes”

“Well, let me just tell you what’s going on.  I’m not going to ask you how rich but right now my beautiful friend here is in a situation.  Her dad is very sick and is fighting for his life in a Philippine hospital right now.  She is willing to go into debt to get her dad to America to be treated since she doesn’t know if she trusts jungle doctors with her dad’s life.  A med-evac from the Philippines to here is still too pricey that even though she’s willing to go into debt, her family can’t afford it.  Can you help her?”

Katie chimed in with her head down, “Don’t listen to her.  I’m not asking you for anything.  I know we just met and you’re probably used to people asking you for money all the time.  I’m sorry for my friend.  I’m sure that the doctors there are used to this shit so we’ll just trust them.  I’m sure it’ll be fine”

“Sounds like you’re not very convinced.  I don’t blame you.  Asian hospitals don’t have access to the newer and more expensive technologies to treat.  I’m not interested in handouts though.  I don’t do things for free.  The question is, how badly do you want to have your dad treated in America?”

Katie’s friend smiled widely and glared at Katie.  Katie’s head perked up and she seemed confused.  “What are you saying?  I mean, I’m not looking for hand outs; it’s just an odd question.  He’s my dad; I love him of course I would do anything to make sure he’s treated here.  The Cleveland Clinic has been the best cardiology hospital for like the last 25 years.  He has dengue fever, which affects the heart so yea, I want him here.”

“Be careful about the phrase, ‘do anything’ it’s very often overused and people rarely mean it.”

                “What do you mean?”

                “Are you married?”

Katie’s eyes darted back and forth as her body tensed.  She had a feeling she knew where this was going.  “Yes”

“Well then that’s going to make this offer a little more scandalous”

                “What do you mean?”

“Well, first I got to make sure that this is even feasible.  I assume it would be.  I’ll call over to the Philippines, see if your dad is even safe to travel but if he is and the only issue is money, I’d be willing to pay for the transfer if I can have one night with you with full access to your body.”

Katie’s complexion became pale and she coughed and took a long swig of her drink.  She stuttered and finally managed, “Ummm, I’m not sure what I’m agreeing to.”

“I will not hurt you or leave any permanent marks.  You will be just as beautiful when we’re done as you are now.  You yourself won’t need any medical attention when we’re done.  Before we do this, we’re going to get tested for STD’s.  If you’re not clean, the deal is off.  You will sign a consent form so you can’t accuse me of sexual assault as I know how women consider everything rape nowadays.  Hell, some people may call it that just for the offer.”

“Well I’m not one of them and I am clean” Katie snapped back angrily.

“Then there’s no problem on my end.  You’d be willing to go through the tests and sign the consent form?”

“Yea, that’s the easy part.  The thing I’m thinking about is what I’m consenting to.”

“I understand, take your time.  You don’t have to answer now”

“Actually, I kind of do considering that my dad is fighting for his life right now.”

Larry pondered this and nodded, “Well, I’m just saying you don’t have time pressure from me.”

Katie took a deep breath and gave her friend a dirty look.  The friend wasn’t sure how she felt.  On one hand, she got what she wanted but on the other it put her friend in a tough situation.  Katie buried her head in her hands and announced, “Yea, I’ll do it”

Larry pulled out his phone and called his assistant to arrange it.  Katie still had her head in her arms and said, “Don’t bother, my mom already looked into it.  Just call her.  Tell her you know me and you’re willing to pay for it.”

“You want me to call her?”

“Please, I just have to process this and I can’t deal with my mom’s question on how I found you.  She’ll ask and I don’t like lying to my mom.  Can you just do this?  Pretend you’re from some organization or something.”  Katie hadn’t looked at him the entire time but did push her phone that was on the bar over to him with her thumb on the sensor to unlock it.

Larry shrugged his shoulders and grabbed the phone.  He inquired, “What’s your mom’s name?”

                “Kelly”

Larry went into her contacts and found ‘mom.’ he dialed the number and he heard, “Katie, what’s up?  I’m trying to book a flight right now.”

“Hi Kelly, my name is Larry, I work for a non-profit organization that helps get American citizens who are injured abroad back to America to receive medical care.”

“I had no idea there were organizations that do that.” She said with much trepidation in her voice, “why do you have my daughter’s phone?  Is she okay?”

“She’s fine, I’m with her now. She told me about your predicament with your husband and we’d like to help.”

                “How much would that cost?”

“I’ve been asked by your daughter not to reveal the cost.  She has taken care of it.  My organization is a start up so we’re not very keen on the logistics quite yet.  Katie mentioned that you already looked into it so if you let me know the company that you were going to use to transport your husband, I can arrange the transport through them and just pick up the bill.”

There was a long pause on the phone.  “I’m sorry, I don’t know what to say.  I’m speechless.  Thank you so much.  Yea….wait….hold on, I got the information right here.  I can’t thank you enough for doing this but just so you know it’s ridiculously expensive.”

“Capital I have Ma’ame, it’s logistics I need to work on.”

“Truth is, I could do this myself but time is of the essence so since they’re already familiar with the situation, I figure it’s quicker to just do it through your person rather than start from scratch.”

“No, I agree.  I found it.” Kelly gives all the information to Larry and Larry copies it into his phone.

                “Alright got it, thank you”

                “No sir, thank you.”

                “Our pleasure.”

He hung up the phone and Katie looked at him for the first time and uttered, “Thank You”

“No problem” Larry said with a smile.  He called the transport company and told them to prepare the transfer but he would need to transfer the funds tomorrow.”

Larry looked at Katie after he said ‘tomorrow’ as if asking if she wanted to do it tonight.  Katie nodded understanding the implication but still had her face buried in her arms.  She couldn’t believe her life had come to this.  Katie’s friend was rubbing her back comforting her constantly questioning if she had done the right thing.  Larry’s next call was to a doctor that would be willing to open their office to do the test.  He agreed and Larry told Katie, “I’m ready when you are.  You can call it off whenever you want.  No obligation but you can understand that I’m not making the transfer until you fulfill your end of the bargain.”

Katie sat up and gave him a dirty look, “Yes, I get that but here’s the problem.  How do I know you’re not going to fuck me over and cancel it anyway?”

“I confess you don’t.  It’s a fucked up situation.  I’m asking you to trust me when I am admitting I don’t trust you.  They have prepared the med-evac chopper.  There is an opening at the Cleveland clinic ready to receive him.  Everything is in place.  There is a penalty fee if I cancel as the hospital and the transport company have reserved the helicopter and bed, which costs money.  I will lose money if I don’t carry through so I kind of have to.”

“No, you don’t have to.  What if you determine that I wasn’t worth that much?”

“Don’t get self conscious.  There was nothing in our negotiation that said performance matters.  You are going to let me do whatever I want to you so long as I don’t leave permanent marks or hospitalize you, that was the agreement.  If what I tell you to do doesn’t pleasure me that’s on me not you.”

“Alright, let’s go get the STD tests; I want to get this over with.”

Katie said good bye to her friend and Larry offered to pay their tab but Katie insisted that she pay for herself.  Her friend wasn’t too happy with it but she felt guilty for getting her involved in this situation so didn’t say anything.  Katie went into Larry’s car and they drove to the doctor’s office.  All the tests came back clean and Larry handed her the contract.  Katie read it over and looked up, “When did you have this drafted up”

“The bartender is a friend of mine.  She called me to come when she overheard your conversation.  My lawyer drafted it when I was on my way to you and I had it delivered.”

“So, this had nothing to do with my friend making the offer?”

“No, that was actually a nice surprise.  It helped me transition to the offer better.”

“So I guess I shouldn’t be mad at her.”

“Even if she was responsible, are you mad?  I mean, you don’t have to take the deal.  I know you feel pressured because of your dad but I mean there’s not really a gun to your head.  If you’re mad at her that means you’re not fully consenting.”

“I am fully consenting so long as you’re not bullshitting me!”

“Oh I see, so you’re not mad at her yet.  You’re going to be if I am lying to you.”

                “Exactly”

                “That makes sense.”

Katie laughed nervously and shook her head.  She got back into Larry’s car and he took her back to his hotel room.  Katie came in and Larry immediately started stripping.  Katie blurted out, “Wait, can we like talk first?  I know we have been but I mean you were talking more to my friend than to me.  I just feel really fucking dirty if I just walk in here, say nothing and sleep with you.”

“What do you want to talk about?” her queried while sitting on the bed in his boxers.

“Well, you seem to know a lot about finance and Trump.  I want to get off about talking about taxes and talk about Trump’s economy with regard to wages.  You said that with all the upward mobility, more people are moving up to the over 150K mark.  Is it still growing or is it stagnating like the news claims?”

“Well, I’m glad our talk has made you doubt the news because they do mislead you.  So, in 2017, employee compensation rose by 4.5%. This is after adjusting for inflation.”

                “Alright, that’s pretty good.”

                “In 2018, it was 5%”

                “So it’s growing faster”

“Well, we don’t get the end of the year numbers till the end of the year but yes 2018 it grew faster than 2017.  As of May, the pace is at 5.3% according to the Wall Street Journal.”

“So this year is looking pretty good too?”

“Yea, employee compensation has gone up $150 billion more in the first six months of 2019.  That’s already higher than all of 2016 in Obama’s last year.”

“So, it’s not that Trump inherited a roaring Obama economy?”

“No, Trump has blown all of Obama’s economic prediction out of the water.  How do you destroy expectations when you reverse every policy someone has?”

                “That makes sense”

“Since, I don’t like blanket statements without the numbers to back it up.  Compensation increased 4.2% more during Trump’s first two years than 2015 and 2016.”

                “I guess you’re a Trump supporter”

“I go by the facts but yes the facts are pretty good for the President.  The national debt and not building the wall yet leads me to be a little concerned but that’s beside the point.”

“Alright, thank you for answering my question.”

                “Are you ready now?”

                “Yea”

Katie stripped herself of her clothes.  She started making out with Larry and then pulled away.  She said, “I really don’t want to feel like a whore, can you hold me from behind while we do this.”

Larry was a little confused by this.  Katie was married so any sign of affection he thought would be adverse to her but he agreed.  They went to the bed and Katie lied on her side as Larry lied next to her, put one hand over her waist resting it on her stomach and his other hand under her neck as an extension of the pillow as he gently eased his penis inside her vagina from behind.  To his surprise, Katie wrapped her legs around Larry’s calves and pulled herself back towards him giving Larry’s penis more torque to penetrate her.  Larry’s hand that was on Katie’s stomach explored her entire body from her legs to her breasts.  Katie rolled toward Larry so she was on top keeping her legs wrapped around Larry’s and letting gravity aid in the penetrations.  Larry kissed her neck and groped her body with both hands as Katie moaned in pleasure.  She soon climaxed and Larry rolled over so that he was back on top.  He pulled out of Katie and slid his body down straddling her right leg.  He licked the top of her butt and sprinkled salt on it.  He poured a tequila shot into a shot glass and put the shot glass in Katie’s butt.  He sucked the salt off and clenched the shot glass in his jaws before downing the contents down his throat.  He repeated this with her left butt cheek.  He got up and put a condom on and said, “Roll over”

Katie rolled onto her back and Larry mounted her wrapping her legs around his waist.  He humped her as he caressed her legs and sucked on her breasts.  It didn’t take long for Larry’s body to collapse onto Katie’s petite frame as he achieved orgasm.

Larry rolled onto his side frustrated with himself that he finished so early.  Although Katie didn’t have a very aesthetic butt, he still would’ve loved penetrating it.  Katie was the first to speak, “Have you followed this Trump collusion stuff and investigating the investigators?”

            “I have”

            “What do you think?”

“That’s a broad question.  I’ll just stick to the current stuff.  I’m pissed Jim Comey isn’t going to be prosecuted”

“Why if there’s no evidence then you can prosecute”

“There is evidence.  The Inspector General Harrowitz recommended to prosecute because he thinks he had enough evidence.  Barr said no.”

“Why did the Attorney General say ‘no’”

“He didn’t think they had enough evidence to prove that Comey intended to violate the law.”

“Ah yes, intent is always the tricky part.”

“The same crap happened with the Hillary Clinton scandal.  They had all this evidence but then didn’t prosecute. There’s just no justice in this country.  Democrats are never prosecuted but Republicans always are.”

            “Like who?”

            “Flynn, Papadopoulos, Manafort, Roger Stone”

            “Right”

“Hold on” Larry grabbed his phone and called the medical transport company and transferred the funds.  He got a confirmation that it went through and they were arranging the transport immediately.  He kept the phone on speaker so that Katie could hear.

Katie didn’t react; she felt that thanking him was a little much considering he caused her to cheat on her husband.  She continued, “Well the report is going to come out in a couple weeks.”

“And I’m sure it’ll be damning but anything short of prosecution is unacceptable to me at this point.”

“Do you know anything about this five page memo that the FBI Director Wray won’t hand over?”

“Yes, it’s by a state department official named Kathleen Kavalec.  It severely compromised the integrity of the man who wrote the dossier, the document that started this whole thing, Christopher Steele.  10 days after the memo was sent, the FBI told the FISA court under oath that they had no derogatory information about Steele but that memo says otherwise.”

“How do you know?  He didn’t turn it over so we don’t know what’s in it.”

“The official memo no but Kavalec’s handwritten notes are not classified and we can see that.  We know that it’s bad because Wray wants to wait two years before releasing it.”

            “What difference does that make?”

“If Trump loses, then the new president can just cover it up just like the planned on Hillary Clinton doing if she won.  That’s why they weren’t careful.  In two years, Trump might not be president.”

“So what do the notes say?”

“Well she was checking travel logs as Steele was talking about Russians coming in and out.  Steele said that the payment was done through the Russian embassy in Miami.  Kavalec notes that there is no Russian embassy in Miami.  There’s one sentence in the travel logs that is redacted.  It’s right around notes about Cohen so I’m pretty sure that she found out Cohen had never been to Prague.  The other guys he mentioned, she has their flight numbers and dates of travel but then conveniently in the middle of all this travel log verification is a redacted portion.  If that says that Cohen had never been to Prague then they lied to the FISA court when they said that he had based on Steele’s dossier which said the same thing.  Knowingly giving false information to a FISA court is illegal and those memos prove he knowingly did so.”

“Well you don’t know what it says so you’re just speculating”

“True but later Steele writes a memo about his dossier that says he’s not sure where the meeting with Cohen happened.  The dossier says Prague, how did he conveniently forget where when he wrote the memo about it after talking to Kavalec?”

            “I don’t know”

“Kavalec may not be innocent in all this.  She may have coached him on how not to contradict himself and pointed it out not to help the FBI to tell them that Steele isn’t a reliable source but to help them get their story straight.”

“Holy shit; that would be very scandalous”

“Now you know why the FBI is keeping that memo hush hush and pretending it’s the equivalent of the nuclear football.  Trump should fire Wray for insubordination and release the memo yesterday.”

“Then they’ll accuse him of obstruction like they did when he fired Comey”

“Obstruction for what?  There is no investigation now.”

           “Oh yea”

“Besides, the president can fire his subordinates for any reason or no reason at all.  Those are Comey’s words not mine.  The Democrats in congress are going to falsely accuse him of shit anyway and want to impeach on already thoroughly debunked claims so who the fuck cares at this point?”

“Yea, they really hate him so he shouldn’t really try to make them happy anymore.  I see your point but I do want to believe that the two parties can get along in office but the last three years has proven the Democrats have no desire to work with Trump and Trump doesn’t help by constantly insulting them and publicly shaming them.”

“He rattled the hornet’s nest and tried to drain the swamp.  He expected this backlash and it exposed them for the corrupt assholes they are.  He shouldn’t stop.”

“Fine, well I’ve fulfilled my end of the bargain right?”

            “And I have mine.”

“Good, then I’m going to go home to my husband”

            Larry chuckled, “Alright, good night.”

“Good night.  Is there any way you can cancel the transport?”

“Well, I told them it had to be done immediately, they were preparing it when we were at the doctor’s so hopefully your dad’s on the plane now, which means it should be too late.”

“Good, don’t take this the wrong way but I never want to see you again.”

“That makes sense.  I wanted this to be a one-time thing too”

Katie’s tone was stern before but it softened now.  “I mean I don’t want you to think I’m ungrateful.  I really appreciate your helping my family out it’s just that I kept thinking that I had no time.  Now that it’s over, I wish I would have talked to my husband first.  I just didn’t want to waste time selling it to him.  I feel really disgusting and guilty now.  I don’t know if I want to tell him because I don’t want to blow up my life.  I’m just really confused and seeing you just reminds me of what I did.”

“Like I said, I understand.  I’m glad I could help you out.  I hope your father makes a complete recovery and gets well soon.  You have no more obligations to me.”

“Thank you, good bye” as she walked out.

Katie didn’t tell her husband.  The next day, her mom calls her to tell her that she’s at the Cleveland Clinic as her dad arrived.  Katie immediately went to the hospital while her husband stayed home with their two kids.  Katie walks in and wraps her arms around her dad who looked really weak.  He utters, “I’m going to be okay, don’t worry sweetheart”

“I know dad, I know I’m just so glad to see you” as tears streamed down her face

Her dad wanted to change the subject so posed, “How has our President been doing since I’ve been gone?”

“Pretty well he’s been attacking the mayor of Baltimore.”

“Yea, well after what they did to him, I don’t blame him for fighting back”

            “What do you mean?”

“Well, it’s looking like the Republicans are right that the Democrats made up this whole collusion with Russia thing”

            “What makes you say that?”

“A judge just dismissed a lawsuit by the Democrats for that DNC (Democrat national committee) hack in 2016.”

            “Big win for Trump”

“It’s not the result, it’s who said it and why”

            “Who said it?”

“The federal judge was appointed by Clinton so when the judge said that the entire case was entirely devoid of facts. That means something.  This isn’t someone that a Republican appointed so they want to curry favor.  This was a Clinton appointment, the husband of the woman that Trump beat and attacked incessantly.  That’s what makes it seem even more believable that the Democrats are doing some shady things.  They only brought the lawsuit because they thought that the judge would be favorable since Clinton appointed him.  The case must have been so bad that even the man whose job was handed to him by an ally couldn’t in good conscious take it.  When you look at how Mueller only appointed Clinton people for his team.  It really makes it seem like the deck was and still is being stacked against the President.”

“That’s funny. I just met someone that was arguing the same thing”

“Yea, well he was right.  What did Trump say about Baltimore?”

“That it’s a rat infested city and the mayor has done nothing to improve it so shouldn’t be talking about how bad the border is.”

“Well, he’s right, Baltimore is a shithole”

“Dad!” she scolded, “How do you know?”

“There was a movie about it called ‘ratfilm.’  It basically talked about all the rats in Baltimore.”

Katie’s mom interjected, “Yea and I just saw a video of Elijah Cummings, the mayor of Baltimore, calling Baltimore a ‘drug infested area’”

Katie rejoined, “If that’s what he said, and the media is claiming that word ‘infested’ is a racist term than that makes Elijah Cummings a racist and he’s black.”

Kelly, Katie’s mom, replied, “Yea, well, at no point was the word ‘infested’ ever indicative of racism until Trump said it.  Do Democrats think we have no memory?  They want to redo the entire English language based on what Trump says, it’s pathetic.”

Katie’s dad smiled and joked, “Yea, Democrats walk by inner cities with perfumed handkerchiefs over their noses talking about how much it stinks.  Well a Republican hasn’t been in office for decades so whose fault is that?”

Katie replied, “Well Trump should use that.  Go to every inner city and make the same pitch.  Everyone will call him a racist but it’ll raise awareness to the conditions and maybe people will be motivated to improve it.”

“The people are the ones that vote them in.”

“Because the Republicans have given up trying to win there.  Most of them have probably never heard a Republican speak.  They’re not going to get any votes from them anyway so why not try it?  They literally have nothing to lose.”

            “That’s a good point.”

Katie’s dad made a full recovery.  He would have to take some heart pills for at least a year but it was a great result.  Katie had no idea what would have happened if she hadn’t made the deal and tried not to think about it.  Her mom did ask her how she arranged this.  The story didn’t make sense that a non-profit organization just took care of it for free.  Katie told her that she did have to pay a reasonable price but refused to tell her what it was even though her mom insisted on reimbursing her.  She claimed that her and her dad had spent so much money on her over her life, it was the least she could do.  Her mom was always suspicious but, in time, let the matter go.  Katie contemplated just naming a number and getting free money from her mom but that would just make her feel more guilty.  She never told her husband about the deal she made with Larry.  She talked with her friend a couple times about it but her friend was very supportive in Katie’s decision.  For her part, she never told anyone either.  Larry returned to New York content that he helped someone in need out.  He never followed up to see if Katie’s dad recovered.  He and Katie never communicated again.
