Annette
used to work for the department of Justice.
Now she is working at the White House as she was fired by the DOJ for
asking too many questions about the Russia probe into Donald Trump. Even though she’s a lifelong Democrat, she is
beginning to feel the push to the right.
She describes it that the Democrats darted so far to the left that she
was blown right. Annette was smart and
rose through the ranks in every place she worked and in school before
that. The White House was no different
but now she was being called into a senior member’s office. This is exactly when she got in trouble with
the DOJ. She thought about if she had
any conversations that may get her in trouble but couldn’t really think of
any. She was opinionated and not shy
about voicing her opinion but there hadn’t been any heated discussions
lately. She went into the office a
little shyly but also ready to pounce if she was disrespected. The superior told her to close the door.
Annette did so knowing that that was a bad sign. He said, “Annette, you were terminated from
the DOJ before working here correct?”
“Yes, I
was”
“What
for?”
Annette
became uncomfortable and squirmed.
“Well, I was confused about how Crossfire Hurricane opened and when I
tried to get clarification, I think people thought I was making accusations
rather than just asking questions.”
“Yea,
well when people are lying they don’t like being asked many questions.” Annette
just nodded. The guy continued, “Well,
now that the Mueller probe is over, the DOJ is engaging in investigations into
how the investigation was open, FISA abuses and Stefan Halper’s role.”
There
was a brief silence as the man wanted to see if Annette responded. Her eye widened and her posture was much more
focused but she said nothing. The man
continued, “You’re doing really well here.
We like you but with new Attorney General Bill Barr investigating the
FBI conduct personally, I was wondering if you wanted to join his team to
investigate what you were terminated for.”
Annette’s
jaw dropped and she squirmed a little more not sure how to respond. She said, “I don’t want to sound ungrateful
that you guys picked me up when I was disgraced and, what I feel to be,
unfairly terminated but I did have more of an interest in the legal aspect and
the Department of Justice so if it’s okay with the AG, I would accept that
position.”
“I
wouldn’t have made the offer if I hadn’t already talked to the AG. The job is yours, you just have to say yes.”
“Yes”
“Alright
done, you get your chance for revenge.” The aide said with a smile
“Isn’t
that a conflict of interest?”
“Every
single member of the Mueller probe had a bigger conflict of interest. You’re not the only one out for revenge but I
can assure you that the AG is not. If
you overstep, the AG will reign you in.
He is tough but he’s fair. This
is not a witch hunt. You don’t have free
range. Speak up if you need to and voice
your opinion loud but not all your ideas are going to be taken and if you make
your bias obvious and do shady things, you will be reprimanded. We are doing this by the book.”
“I
understand. In fact, I’d have it no
other way.”
“Perfect,
you start next week. Finish up whatever you’re working on now, brief someone on
it and then pass it off.”
“Will
do, thank you sir.”
“Thank
me by doing a good job and not making me regret recommending you.”
“Will
do.”
When
Annette came out, she looked up at the TV and saw Bernie Sanders railing
against millionaires. Annette said to
the TV, “You’re a millionaire”
As if
Bernie heard her, Sanders said, “I’m a millionaire because I wrote a
best-selling book. If you write a
best-selling book, you can be a millionaire too.”
Annette
shook her head and said, “First of all, a lot of Best-selling authors are not
millionaires. Second of all, so it’s
okay to make money writing a book but not in the countless of other ways people
have made millions? Do people believe
this shit?”
A man
looked up from his desk and said, “He’s the ultimate hypocrite. I don’t know why people still support him.”
Annette
turned to him, “Yea me neither.”
Annette
transitioned all her work to her co-workers and briefed them on her progress
for the rest of the week. The following
Monday she was back at the DOJ with Bill Barr.
Barr asked her in his calm even-keeled way, “So, what were you told?”
“That
you’re investigating how Crossfire Hurricane was open.”
“Yes,
do you have any questions?”
“Is
this like the inspector general Harrowitz investigation? Are you looking at bias of prioritizing this
over Clinton or….”
“This
is deeper than the IG report. Unlike the
IG, we can have subpoena power so we can dig deeper and I expect to. There will be long hours. Is that going to be a problem for you?”
“No
sir, I’m single with no kids at home. I
have no problem working late.”
“Excellent.
Please review these criminal recommendations from Congressman Nunes”
Annette was bringing the documents
the AG just gave her down the hall to her cubicle. When she did, a familiar face said, “Hey
Annette”
She looked up and said “Oh hey
Theo”
Annette had grown up with
Theo. They weren’t close but they went
to the same church. Although they didn’t
really speak when they went to college, he in New York and she in DC, they
reconnected right around the Spygate scandal.
He had helped start a minute men group at the Arizona border but he did
make a stint in DC and actually got Annette the job at the White House. She returned the favor by lobbying the White
House for protection for his little group.
She said, “What are you doing here?
I thought you were in Arizona.”
“They don’t really need me
now. The wheels are in motion and it’s
garnered enough momentum to be difficult to stop. I just got a job here.”
“Doing what?”
“Working with IG Harrowitz.”
“Can you tell me what the
investigation is about?”
“Halper’s contacts with the Trump
campaign”
“I’m here to investigate how
Crossfire Hurricane was opened.”
“Oh, what you were fired for.”
“Yea, a little ironic don’t you
think” Annette said with a smile
“Actually that’s not ironic at
all. It’s just interesting. It’s just
how things change. One minute your
actions are a termination-worthy event the other it’s what people want. That’s what trendsetters do.”
“I guess it’s not ironic but, yea,
interesting.”
“Maybe we can help each other.”
“I’m not sure there’s much overlap
between mine and yours.”
“Really? Halper contacted Carter Page July 11, 2016
for the first time.”
Annette dropped her head and her
eyes widened in shock, “Ummm, yea there may be some overlap.”
“Dinner tonight?”
“Yes, the AG says I’ll have to put
in long hours so I’ll call you when I’m out.”
“Deal”
They finished the day and Annette
called him and Theo picked a restaurant and they went to dinner. “Okay, so Halper contacted Page three weeks
before an official investigation was opened.”
“And they remained in contact until
September 2017”
“When the final FISA ended”
“Ahh, you didn’t just forget all
the things you were looking at when you got fired.”
“No, I didn’t, but do you know what
this means?”
“There either was another
investigation open that we don’t know about before July 11, or they had a
confidential informant in use without an open investigation. Big problem; big no-no in procedure.”
“What about Papadopoulos?”
“Ah, our countrymen” (Both Annette
and Theo were Greek)
“Yes, him”
“Halper was busy with the Trump
campaign members. He met with Sam Clovis
and Papadopoulos in addition to Page.”
“I haven’t heard much about Clovis”
“He was a Senior Campaign official
for Trump. You don’t know him because he
was never charged with anything related to Russian collusion or obstruction.”
“Halper
is so sketchy. He tried to take down
Mike Flynn too”
“Yes he
did.”
“So is
Halper is looking into Clovis and Page, what does any of that have to do with
Papadopoulos?”
“Nothing,
the only thing they have in common is that they all work for Trump”
“So,
I’m right, Crossfire Hurricane has nothing to do with Papadopoulos”
“Yea,
but you already knew that.”
“Yea, I
did, I just don’t understand how it went from collusion to obstruction. There’s so much exculpatory evidence with
obstruction. Especially since Trump told
Comey to investigate his satellite officials and Comey lied to Trump that he
was under investigation”
“Collusion
is more cut and dry and requires more evidence.
Obstruction is a judgment call.
The burden of proof is much less.
It’s like racism or sexism. I
mean the media argued the word “Binder” was a chauvinistic term when Romney
ran.”
“Yea, I
remember that. Because the only time you
have binders of women is in a sperm donor clinic and they’re filled with
porn. What a joke?”
“Did
you think that at the time?”
“No, I
was hoodwinked by Obama”
“Yea, a
lot of people were.”
“I just
really hope the AG is ready for this.”
“He is”
“How do
you know?”
“When
Mueller refused to make the call on obstruction, Barr didn’t hesitate to say no
to obstruction knowing that the media was going to say that he was a Trump mole
and was just supporting the man who hired him.
Mueller threw the media a bone and the AG doesn’t really care that the
media took it. He took
responsibility. One of the biggest
problems with most people is they refuse to take responsibility. In fact, some argue that you can make anyone
do anything if you’re willing to take the responsibility for it. Barr wasn’t afraid. He testified for two hours on Capitol Hill
and seemed bored even though he was being interrogated. The dude is calm and collected and doesn’t
fold under pressure.”
“Yea,
he basically gave the media what they were looking for when he said that
Mueller declined to review the Barr report.”
“Which
just shows you the piece of shit that Mueller is. I mean he spent 22 months investigating
something. Someone is writing a brief on
it and he refuses to be a part of it? Is
he embarrassed because he didn’t do his job in finding something to impeach
Trump about? Why wouldn’t he be
interested in someone describing and briefing his work?”
“Yea,
see, the Republicans aren’t innocent in this either. Mueller is a Republican you know.”
“The
thing about the right is that we don’t collectivize. It’s more of a fault than a vice but we are
much more willing to criticize our own.
We don’t protect people just because they’re Republicans. We hold people to a higher standard and you
need to measure up.”
Annette
smiled, “Do you think I can handle it?”
“Absolutely,
you’re one of the smartest people I know.”
Annette
was expecting a sarcastic response and was surprised he didn’t get one. This caused her to blush but she said, “Thank
you”
Theo
said, “Your turn, anything juicy today?”
“Well
right off the bat, I got Nunes’ eight criminal referrals and they’re good but I
can’t tell you them.”
“What
can you tell me?”
“Well I
looked into the court filings and found a case in which Comey is a witness in
an investigation.”
“Which
one? The Trump probe?”
“That’s
the thing, it can’t be. Comey wasn’t the
investigator in that case, Strzok and Gaeda were. You don’t get called as a witness for an
investigation your subordinates investigated.
Remember his testimony on Capitol Hill where he basically denied knowing
or remembering anything.”
“Yea,
how to not get convicted of perjury”
“Right,
so it has to be the obstruction probe because do you remember what started
that”
“Trump
firing Comey”
“Right,
it turns out that Comey gave his memos to MeCabe right after he got fired.”
“Which
was before Mueller was appointed. So
MeCabe was right, if someone leaves, the people there pick up where he left
off. Comey gave MeCabe the memos so he
could continue what Comey started. No obstruction.”
“There’s
obviously no obstruction. I mean Comey
admitted under oath that the President has the power to fire him for any reason
he deems fit. The case, even with the
low level of evidence needed is dead in the water.”
Dinner
ended and Annette said, “Don’t take this the wrong way but can you come home
with me. Last time I rattled the cage,
people broke into my house”
“Sure”
Annette
and Theo shared an Uber back to her place.
When they got there, Annette’s intuition was correct, there was a man on
her porch. Theo turned to Annette and
said, “Do we know him?”
“Yea,
he’s MeCabe’s aide that I talked back to and led to my being fired.”
Theo
smiled and got out of the Uber but Annette stayed. He walked up to the man and said, “So you’re
trying to scare young women I see.”
“Scare? No, just friendly advice”
“I got
some for you too.”
“This
isn’t time to play tough guy”
“Really? You’re not with the DOJ anymore. But, I’m sure you came across the name Theo
Rozos.”
“Minute
Men” the former aide said knowingly and condescendingly.
“Yea,
and we have backing from the President.”
“Is
that a threat?”
“God
no! just friendly advice.”
The man
smiled, “Well, I’ll be going. Tell your
little girlfriend that A) she’s too good for you and B) watch her back.”
The guy
walked to a car on the street and got in and drove off. It was only then Annette got out. She said, “Holy shit, good call on asking you
to come.”
“He
wasn’t going to do anything. He’s not
stupid. He’s just trying to scare you.”
“Yea
well, when he was my boss, he didn’t scare me.
He won’t now.”
“Alright,
it means he’s threatened by you, which means your instincts are right. Trust them.”
“I
intend to.”
“Good
night Annette”
“Good
night”
Theo
leaned his mouth towards hers and Annette pulled back. “I wasn’t lying when I said don’t take this
the wrong way.”
Theo
nodded. “Worth a shot” he said with a
smile, “Good night, call me if you don’t want to be alone.”
Annette’s
expression went from distraught to a smile.
It seemed that Theo wasn’t upset by the rejection. Theo got into the Uber and plugged in his
address. Both Annette and Theo were
happy to be part of the offensive team against the deep state tyrants that
failed to entrap and bring down a US President.
They just hope they were successful in getting real justice done. It may be delayed but better late than never
and they were thrilled to be a part of it.
