Based on the 4/3/19 Podcast at www.bongino.com
Sunny
is a Chinese-American who has always wanted to work for a magazine. When she graduated college, she got a job at a
prominent magazine in New York City where she lived. A friend she met in college was a far-right
conservative. Although Sunny was on the
other side of the spectrum, they had healthy debates and unlike most people,
she didn’t think he was evil just because he liked smaller government and
traditional American values. The friend’s
name was Larry. Sunny went to work one
day and her boss called her in. She sat
down and her boss said, “You know Sunny, you’ve been doing a really good job
and I wanted to discuss your promotion.”
“Thank
you sir”
“You
are relatively young and normally I don’t promote people who have only been
here for three years but I’m really contemplating making an exception for you.”
“Okay,
I’ll work really hard for you as I have been.”
“No, I
know” just then her boss picked up a call but Sunny didn’t hear a vibrate or
ring. She felt she just missed it. The boss ended the call saying, “I’ll be
right there.” He hung up the phone and told Sunny, “Sorry, I got to go, but can
we discuss this later. How about my
place at around 9:00? I’ll order some really good Filet Mignon and lobster tail
or whatever you’d like if that’s not to your liking”
Sunny
lowered her head. She had a feeling what
this dinner was really about. She said, “I’m
sorry, I have plans maybe we’ll discuss this on Monday” as it was currently
Friday.
“Of
course”
Sunny
and her boss left the office and she finished the day. She immediately called Larry to meet for
dinner. Sunny started the conversation
with what happened and said, “It’s just so hard being a woman in business”
“What
do you mean? Men don’t get that
offer. I mean most women have slept with
men they don’t like because of reasons like ‘they’ve paid for so many things I
owe it to them’ or ‘he just keeps asking and won’t leave me alone so I feel if
I give it to him then he’ll leave me alone’ by the way the second one is never
true. So, why not do it for a promotion and
to get ahead in your career? See men, we
can only advance on our merit, women have other options.”
“Yea,
except your labeled a whore”
“So
what? That doesn’t get transferred to
every employer.”
“Yes it
does”
“I don’t’
believe that.”
“Whatever,
given that you’re the son of a surgeon and don’t have any student loans, you don’t’
understand the grind of poor people. You
don’t act like a rich kid which is why I sometimes forget that you are. I mean, that’s why you’re a Republican.”
“You’re
saying that Democrats aren’t rich? Soros? The New York politicians, hell across the
country really.”
“No,
there are some”
“Not
some, almost all of the 1%ers are liberals, the demographics are the really
rich and the poor are Democrats, the middle class is Republican.”
“I don’t
believe that”
“Okay,
let’s go through the Democratic presidential candidates; We got Bernie Sanders,
the socialist, always talks about the poor.
So how does he fare? He’s got
three houses. The cheapest of which is a
575,000 lake House in Vermont that he bought in cash. Only rich people pay for a house in cash…or
criminals. Bernie may be both. Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris are also
millionaires, the poorest of all the Democratic candidates is New Jersey
senator Corey Booker, who’s worth between 600,000 and 1.3 Million according to Forbes”
“Trump
is a billionaire.”
“Trump
doesn’t tell people to be poor and tell them they don’t need their wealth. The Democratic candidates do yet they don’t
donate their wealth to the government.”
“I just
think you have to be rich to be a politician.”
“Yes
and you’re a hypocrite when you’re rich, advocate stealing money from other
rich people but you don’t donate your own.”
“Let’s
move on. I don’t want to quit. If I get let go, then I’ll get
unemployment. So do you have any ideas
how to do that without being a shitty employee?”
“Advocate
writing a conservative story that your liberal mainstream media won’t report.”
“That’s
actually a good idea. You got any ideas? I’m sure you do given that you’re a
conservative.”
“Write
about Comey being a corrupt piece of shit.
Do a hit piece on Christiane Amanpour”
“Christiane
Amanpour is one of the best reporters in the world!”
“Ehhh,
Americans always think that just because someone has a British accent, they’re
smart and sophisticated and should be listened to.”
“You’re
an American”
“But I don’t
fall for it.”
What do
you have against Amanpour?”
“She
asked Comey if the FBI should arrest people for saying ‘lock her up’ at Trump
rallies. A journalist is advocating against
freedom of speech. She called it
inciting a riot even though it never did.
Cheering is not a riot!”
“That
is a little weird. So what about Comey?
I mean he wants to testify in public.”
“Because
he knows that you media people will have his back. He just wants to attack Trump and have you
people spin for him.”
“What
should he be worried about?”
“He
signed a document for the FISA court that the dossier had been verified through
the Woods procedure but it wasn’t”
“How do
you know?”
“Because
pretty much every claim has been proven false and there’s no paper trail that
it went to England, New Zealand, Canada or Australia or the five eyes that the
Woods procedure mandates you send information before it goes to the President
or a FISA court.”
“That
is a story.”
“Yea,
and then you have his two lieutenants Jim Baker and Andy MeCabe under criminal
investigation for criminal leaks. Aren’t
higher ups responsible for those that work underneath them? Paterno got fired for that.”
“Comey
isn’t a sports coach and a celebrity like Joe Paterno”
“Comey
lied 245 times. He said that he closed
Hillary’s e-mail investigation after he interviewed her. He also somehow read like 10,000 e-mails in
48 hours, but his own notes said the opposite.
He interviewed Clinton after closing the investigation.”
“Yea”
“And
Hillary Clinton paid Fusion GPS through Perkins Coie for the dossier that Comey
swore was verified when it wasn’t”
“Well,
to give you more fuel, George Soros gave three million dollars to Fusion GPS,
the author of the dossier, to investigate Trump.”
“There
you go! Did he launder it through a lawfirm like Hillary?”
“No,
through a non-profit called the Democracy Integrity Project”
Larry
chuckled, “I was joking, but okay he did launder it.”
Sunny and
Larry finished dinner and enjoyed their weekend separately. On Monday, Sunny went back to work. Again her boss called her in and said, “Do
you have any ideas for a story?”
“Yes, I
want to write about how Comey is in trouble because of the lies he told to
congress and not verifying the dossier.”
“I don’t
think the public cares about that.”
“I
think they’re getting too much of the anti-Trump stuff.”
“No
such thing. America hates Trump.”
“True,
but they hate law enforcement too.”
“The
office seems way too formal. Are you sure
you don’t want to discuss this at my apartment tonight? Have some win? be a little more casual?”
“Not appropriate”
“Oh, a
feminist”
“Sure,
why not?”
“Well,
I am very powerful and very well connected.
If you don’t give me what I want, then you’ll never work at a reputable
journalistic outlet again.”
“What
do you want?”
“Well
based on how ungrateful you are in the last two conversations, I think we’ll
start with you over my knee with a bare ass staring at me.”
“Well,
that’s a little blunt.”
“I
tried subtlety”
“Yea,
unfortunately, that subtlety was a warning so this time I recorded it.” As she
brandished her phone.
Her
boss lunged over his desk for the phone but Sunny jumped back. She smiled and walked out of his office and
went back to her desk. She’d let him
sweat a little bit. It didn’t take long
before a female executive asked her if she could talk. Sunny agreed and the female executive sighed
and said, “Okay, so what do you want for that recording?” as she pulled out her
checkbook
“Free
reign to write about what I want.”
The
female executive looked up. “Excuse me.”
“I’m
not extorting you for money. I just want
to write a story that he will hate. You
will probably let me go. I won’t pursue
a lawsuit, I won’t pursue more money, I just want my name to make waves by
printing a controversial piece in your magazine. That way you can let me go, give me a
generous severance package and unemployment and then I can still get a job
somewhere else. The new place will try
to reign me in but I have no desire to stand out anywhere else.”
“What
are you going to write about?”
“Don’t
know yet”
“Comey?”
“Nah, too
easy and the sexual harasser doesn’t advocate for Comey. I want to refute him, make it look like you
fired me for disagreeing with him but the paper will have a conflicting article
that any opponents can point to. It’ll
discredit him but not bring down the paper.”
“That
kind of wisdom makes me not want to lose you.”
“I’m
not working here if he’s here. I don’t expect
you to fire him over me.”
The
female executive nodded and said, “Okay, you got two weeks but you have to put
all that in writing. You waive your
right to sue for false termination and for the sexual harassment. After all, he never did touch you. You also can’t write about him harassing you.”
“I have
it on tape, it’s enough”
“Hence,
you’re here in this position.”
“So we
have a deal?”
“Yea,
much better than I thought it would be.”
Sunny
left work and called Larry. She said, “Okay
so the guy who harassed me is a huge proponent of ObamaCare. I need you to explain to me why it’s bad.”
“ObamaCare
fails predominantly because of community rating.”
“What
do you mean?”
“It
says that you can’t charge the elderly more than three times what you charge
the young. Problem is young people don’t
go to the doctor as much as old people.
In fact, the elderly use medical care five times more than younger
people. Like I said, they only pay three
times more, so there’s a discrepancy in money and who do you think pays for
that?”
“Who?”
“Young
people. Think about it though, normally
old people have more money than kids just out of college right?”
“Yea,
work experience, they’ve climbed the ladder whereas young people are just
getting started”
“So, it’s
the opposite of what liberals claim, you’re taking from the poor and giving to
the rich.”
“Holy
shit, I mean it’s not poor to rich, it’s college graduate vs. established
veteran but yea, that’s pretty much what it is.
Taking from poor college graduates with little to no credit history and
no experience to widely experience thus larger salaried people. Definitely not fair”
“Yea
why are 20-year-olds subsidizing older Americans?”
“Anything
else?”
“Well,
the guarantee issue is a problem because now you can wait till you get sick
before getting insurance. So you haven’t
paid into it. This makes the discrepancy
higher.”
“I
thought it was about prior conditions”
“That’s
only what they say. It may even be what
they intended but that’s not what it is in practice. Insurance works because healthy people are
paying into it in case something happens.
That way the insurance company has a pool to draw from when shit
happens. Guarantee issue means you don’t
have to contribute to the pool.”
“Wait,
isn’t that why Obama had the individual mandate?”
Larry
smiled, “Yea, well, forcing people to pay into a program is wrong too. That’s totalitarianism and police state
tactics. The government nor private
citizens should ever force you to purchase something. The economy should always be based on people
making choices to consume.”
“Gottcha,
but that was how Obama got around the guaranteed issue being turned into
exploitation by waiting till you get sick before getting insurance.”
“I don’t
know what Obama was thinking. I don’t
know the man!”
“Gottcha,
thanks”
“Your
welcome”
When
Larry read the piece, he noticed that, although Sunny attacked ObamaCare pretty
ruthlessly, she also attacked Trump for making it worse by getting rid of the
Individual mandate. Larry didn’t really
have a problem. After all, there was
truth to it. The subsequent events went
pretty much exactly how Sunny predicted.
She got let go, got the generous severance package and
unemployment. It didn’t take long to
find another job and she was going to toe the line. Her previous magazine tried to discredit her
but the damage was done. Defending
ObamaCare was ignored by the readers because of Sunny’s piece. The people got the message. ObamaCare stole from the poor and gave to the
rich, and that was something that the general public just couldn’t stand
for. Her boss was disgraced for
defending it and his column was read less and less. Soon he retired as his power and respect was
diminished.
